Dan Watts is Director and Director of Photography working on documentaries, factual TV, and branded films, based in Birmingham UK.

Having a fascination with the human condition and complexity of the world, he is drawn to tell stories that give a greater understanding of human existence and the society we live in. Exploring traditions, subcultures, art, the weird and wonderful, and people on the fringes of society, mixing satire with serious subject matter. He endeavours to break preconceptions and stereotypes, creating films that have a positive social impact.

Dan creates short and long-form films for social, cinema and television. Previous projects include Joe Lycett’s tour and comedy special More, More, More! How Do You Lycett? How Do You Lycett?; and his independently produced documentary Newcastle Brown Male: Inside The Fringe, following presenter Jack Dargov and comedian Raul Kohli, as he takes on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which featured on STV and Next Up.

His ongoing projects include; a five-part doc-series on the History of MAC, digging into the archives of the Midlands Arts Centre, uncovering moments and people that made the centre what it is today; and a short doc on Dion Kitson, a rising artist from the Black Country as he prepares for his first solo exhibitions. Both are due for release in summer.

Whilst producing, filming and editing his own films independently, he collaborates on projects with producers, directors, production companies, charities, and artists. He is able to draw upon his network to facilitate larger projects in all aspects of production.
